Mommy Makeover

General Summary

After you are done having your kids, it’s time to focus on you again! It’s frustrating to have your body change and not be able to tighten loose skin on your abdomen or get rid of unwanted belly fat. Usually your breasts change too – some women have sagging, some women’s breast become very small and deflated, and others want a breast reduction after having kids. That’s why a Mommy Makeover is one of the most common procedures at New Life Cosmetic Surgery Center.

1. Consultation and Planning

When you come to a consultation at New Life Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Lee will examine you to help you decide what operation is best for you. Many Mommy Makeovers address Breast and Belly concerns but some patients wish to have procedures that address excess fat in the thighs or other problem areas. Dr. Lee will address each of your concerns. If you have lost the fullness of your breasts, you may want a Breast Augmentation. If you have breast ptosis (sagging), you may want a Mastopexy (breast lift) to help you get perkier breasts. If your breasts are large and heavy, you may want a Breast Reduction.

Your abdomen changes after having children also. If you have loose skin and stretch-marks, you might benefit from an Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck), which can tighten your abdominal muscles and remove excess skin. If your skin is tight but you have unwanted fat, you may wish to have liposuction. And if you’re dealing with asymmetric or larger labia, low sexual desire, or urinary incontinence after pregnancy, an internal Mommy Makeover might help you feel more confident inside and out. At New Life Cosmetic Surgery Center, we will tailor-make a plan just for you!

2. Procedure

A Mommy Makeover at New Life Cosmetic Surgery Center is a day procedure and the length of the surgery depends on which combination of procedures you choose. You will arrive at the office in the morning and be home in the afternoon.  This surgery is always done with IV conscious sedation and NOT general anesthesia.  Thus you will sleep through the entire procedure but be breathing on your own.  You do not need to be intubated.

3. Recovery

You will notice a difference immediately after surgery but you will be very swollen and the results will improve with time as the swelling goes down. You should not lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk for at least 2 weeks after surgery. You should walk around immediately after surgery and NOT stay in bed. This is important to prevent blood clots. You should eat a healthy diet and as much protein as possible to promote good healing.

You will walk a little bent over at first but by the end of the first week, you should be standing straight up like normal so you don’t strain your back. Dr. Lee sees all the patients the next day after surgery. He will remove the bandages and you can shower after these bandages have been removed. You should not lift anything over 5 pounds in the first 2 weeks of recovery. However most patients return to work within 1 week, especially if they have light duty at work. You may drive and return to work when you are no long taking prescription pain medicine.

Remember that everyone is different. Recovery times and progression is not the same for everyone. The times stated are typical for healthy individuals healing from this surgery. The normal progression of healing may be different for those with health problems, smokers, and those who have unforeseen complications after surgery.

4. Results

After you have your Mommy Makeover no one will believe that you have had kids. If you had breast augmentation, your breasts will be full and perky, and if you had a tummy tuck, your belly will be flatter. You can feel confident in anything you put on – or even with nothing on! Individual results may vary.
