About Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Laser skin rejuvenation is a cosmetic treatment that addresses common skin conditions using advanced laser technology. This treatment delivers focused beams of light to remove dead or damaged cells from the skin’s surface, as well as targeting concerns within the deeper underlying layers of tissue. This stimulates the production of collagen and elastin fibers, two vital proteins that help keep your skin elastic, firm, and youthful. (1) We offer several different types of laser treatments to help address a wide range of skin concerns and conditions, including both ablative and non-ablative lasers. Ablative lasers eliminate the outermost layer of skin for a deeper treatment, while non-ablative lasers target the underlying layers of tissue without damaging the surface.

Our Laser Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

At New Life Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa, we offer CO2 laser resurfacing, Moxi, and IPL to help you refine your skin. Our laser specialist can help you determine which treatment is best during your consultation.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

Our CO2 laser resurfacing treatment can be performed to address premature signs of aging, such as discoloration, wrinkles, and more. This treatment features an ablative fractional CO2 laser. This means that the laser removes the outermost layer of skin for a deeper treatment, and only treats a fraction of the skin, leaving the remaining areas untouched. (2)

Moxi

Moxi is a non-ablative laser that targets the water found in your skin and heats it to regenerate new skin cells and collagen. Moxi is ideal when addressing textural concerns, signs of premature aging, and is even effective for sun damage. (3)

IPL

Intense pulsed light (IPL) lasers deliver pulsed beams of intense light to eliminate unwanted skin concerns and blemishes. Unlike other lasers, IPL can emit different wavelengths to help address a wide range of dermatological concerns, including acne, wrinkle elimination, rosacea, melasma, and more. (4)

Benefits

Laser skin rejuvenation offers several benefits for patients seeking nonsurgical, minimally invasive ways to refresh their skin. By receiving treatment from our trained laser experts, our patients see improvements like:

  • Wrinkle Reduction: Laser skin treatments can effectively reduce the appearance of creases, fine lines, and wrinkles by tightening the skin and stimulating the production of collagen.
  • Pigmentation Correction: These treatments can address pigmentation irregularities, such as age spots or sun spots, resulting in a more uniform and even appearance.
  • Improved Skin Texture: Laser skin rejuvenation can minimize the appearance of acne scars and resurface rough or damaged areas, resulting in smoother skin.
  • Vascular Lesion Improvement: Skin conditions like rosacea and spider veins can be treated effectively with targeted laser therapy.
  • Long-Lasting Effects: When paired with a proper skincare routine, the results of your laser treatment can remain for long periods, with continued improvements.

Anyone interested in enhancing the health or appearance of their skin may be a suitable candidate for laser skin rejuvenation, as our lasers can safely be used on any skin type or tone. This treatment is highly beneficial for those experiencing:

  • Fine Lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Acne Scars
  • Age Spots
  • Sun Damage
  • Vascular Lesions

Patients should hold realistic expectations regarding the results of their laser skin rejuvenation treatment and be in good general health. During your consultation, your specialist will determine the best type of laser treatment for your goals.

Personal Consultation

The first step to revitalizing your skin is attending a consultation at either our McAllen or Boerne office. During this meeting, one of our specialists will meet with you to discuss your medical history, your skin concerns, and your desired treatment outcomes. They will also perform a medical examination to evaluate the condition and quality of your skin. They will use the information gathered to develop your personalized treatment plan, recommending the best type of laser for your concerns and explaining the differences between each one. They will also take the time to answer any questions you may have, as we want each patient to feel informed and empowered about their treatment.

Preparation

Preparing for your laser rejuvenation treatments is fairly straightforward. You may be asked to modify your skincare routine to avoid using products that can compromise your skin’s barrier, such as retinoids or exfoliants. You will need to refrain from using tanning beds several weeks before undergoing your treatment, and you should ensure you are wearing the proper sun protection when leaving the house. It is also advised to stay hydrated and get a full night of sleep before your appointment.

Procedure

At the beginning of your procedure, your skin will be cleansed and sterilized to ensure there is no dirt, oil, or product residue on your face. A topical anesthetic will then be applied to minimize any potential discomfort.

Once the treatment area has been prepared, our laser specialist will use a small device to administer the laser energy. As the energy is absorbed, it will heat the treatment area, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. This can improve the health, elasticity, and appearance of your skin, restoring a more youthful-looking appearance. If you receive an ablative laser treatment, the outermost layer of your skin will be removed, revealing the fresh, youthful, unaffected layers underneath.

The duration of each laser skin rejuvenation treatment can vary depending on how large the treatment area is and the specific treatment being performed, but they typically range between 30 minutes and two hours.

Recovery and Results

Laser Skin Rejuvenation New Life Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa

After your laser treatment, you may experience redness and/or sensitivity in the treated areas, as well as itching or mild irritation. These symptoms are temporary and will dissipate on their own within several days. When leaving the house, you will need to wear sun protection to avoid potential skin damage or hyperpigmentation. You will also need to refrain from wearing makeup or using harsh skincare products until your skin has completely healed. During your initial recovery, we recommend applying moisturizing creams or ointments to help soothe your skin and enhance your healing process.

The results of your laser skin rejuvenation treatments are gradual, meaning you will be able to see your skin improve as your internal collagen levels are raised. You can experience a smoother, tighter, and more radiant look as your skin renews itself, reducing pigmentation concerns and premature signs of aging.

Corresponding Procedures

Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a highly popular skin treatment that helps stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. This treatment features a device that uses fine needles to gently penetrate the skin’s surface. These micropunctures trigger the body’s natural regenerative responses, leading to enhanced collagen production and, in turn, a smoother and more radiant appearance. At New Life Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa, we can combine this treatment with either PRP or hyaluronic acid to help enhance your results.

  • PRP: Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a serum formulated from the plasma naturally found in your blood. The platelets in your blood contain numerous growth factors that have anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effects, both of which can help restore a more youthful-looking appearance.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a deeply hydrating substance that can be found naturally in the body. Hyaluronic acid is highly hydrophilic, meaning it effectively binds to water molecules. When administered to a treatment area, its water-retaining properties lead to improved structural support and volume.
